It’s that easy!
The process is easy and straightforward. For you as the customer all you have to do is ship your products to our studio, give us time to photograph the product, you then review the product or products and confirm that the photography is correct, and then you upload the files to your site.
That being said, this is what we have to do.
We receive your products in from a common carrier shipper. Input those products into our system with control tracking numbers. Then we have to open, un-package, assemble, clean, dust, and prepare your products photography. Once the products are ready for photography they move to the 360 studio. In the studio we have to find a way to mount, rig, and rotate your product. Now that the motion is taken care of, we need to make sure the lighting is correct. To do this, we will take multiple test shots of your product in place. Then we will confirm the lighting on a workstation. Once the lighting is correct and the rigging is satisfactory, the 360 photography begins. Using our in-house 360 product photography equipment, we will photograph your product with high-resolution shots. Using these high-resolution shots, we will post edit the photography to unify the background, create the animation, and finalize the 360 photography.
Once the photography is complete post edit begins. Sometimes this is as simple as removing the backgrounds. Other times we have to edit the product itself to make it more aesthetically pleasing to the viewers. This could include removing dust, scratches, or other manufacturing imperfections. Remember the product rotates so there is no way to hide anything that is on the product.
With photography and postproduction complete, the 360 file is available to you, for your review online. Once the review is complete and you are happy with the photography, the files will be made available to you for inclusion on your website.
The product then goes back in its box, to be prepared to ship back to you.
Create your 360’s in-house. Here are a few of the suggested steps to create great 360 views using your in-house photographer and your existing studio.
- Set up your in-house table top studio – We suggest that you use strobe photography for your studio. Over time the cost of hot lights will greatly surpass the initial cost of studio strobes. Take a look at Alien Bee for your studio strobes. In our medium studio we use 6 studio strobes for lighting.
- Once you have the perfect table top studio setup that creates the perfect product shots, without a background and minimal shadows, you will need to select a Product Turntable that will suit your needs. Many different options exist that will work. In the current market, we would suggest looking at FotoRobot, Imajize, WebRotate360 or Ortery for your turntable needs.
- Adding in the turntable to your table top studio is as simple as removing your current table top and adding in the turntable.
- Learn the controls of your turntable either through software or through the controls on the turntable.
- Run test after test of the studio, you will want to have 90% of your image corrections corrected in the camera. Remember that you have 10 – 40 images for each 360 view.
- Learn the process of post editing the product photos. This part is always left out of most process descriptions. It can take a lifetime to learn this steps. We would suggest learning PhotoShop and Actions. This makes it possible to process multiple images in a single run(remember 10 – 40 images per 360 view). This will not be the final edits to the images, but it will correct things such as color, background and contrast.
- Find a suitable 360 viewer. In the beginning we had Quicktime. Their technology for a viewer was what started it all. Then we moved to Flash and everyone needed to make their own Viewer. Today we have many options for our viewers. You can start by looking for options that connect directly with your website such as Magento, WordPress or Shopify. The draw back of some of these options is that they do not have a simple review system built in. Otherwise, you can use an external viewer, these are simpler for the review process, but the implementation side is more difficult.
- Once you have your first 360, create process for mounting, rigging and studio workflow.
